Our Mission
The mission of Sunshine Community Compost is to strengthen community connections and give back to the planet through accessible education and action programs that increase local composting, resource recovery, and zero waste efforts.
WE HAVE DIVERTED
230,000 POUNDS
FROM LOCAL LANDFILLS
Sunshine Community Compost continues to shape our work in ways that we hope ensure the long term sustainablity of our programs and services and builds resilience within communities and the food system. Our hope is to move beyond just recovering resources, building soil, growing food, creating community connections. We also want to ensure the right educational resources, programs and tools are accessible to as many people as possible so we can expand upon the new wave of emerging compost enthusiasts and leaders.
We believe that anyone who feels that they are ready and able to compost should be able to participate in this exciting local and global movement to give back to and reconnect with nature and community composting efforts. If you are experiencing financial barriers but have an unwavering committment to composting, reach out to us and we can work with you. Let us know what you can pay, even if that number is zero. Simply call 650-743-3104 or email ttroxler@sunshinecommunitycompost.org and express your need. We have a small team, but usually can respond within 3 business days.
We all know that program operations, insurances, transporation, repairs, platform fees, bookkeeping, fundraising and program staff time to do our work cost money. We cannot exist without those supporters who are able to pay for the fee-for-service programs alongside our generous donors who offer charitable contributions and grants. We need everyone who can pay to continue doing so while we also reach further to extend an invitation to those who experience income constraints to join this movement. Together, we create a more resilent and equitable community one day and effort at a time. Please feel free to reach us directly if you have additional ideas on how we can further equitable approaches to access to our work. We appreciate your input.
